EMPRESS THEATRE
TO-NIGHT'S PROGRAMME. The business of criminal investigation has been brought to the level of a science by the talented sleuths of the present century, but Edmund Lowe in "The Spider," Fox mystery melodrama, screening at the Empress Theatre to-night, extends the possibilities another notch by solving a baffling murder through hypnotism. Lowe plays the part of a stage magician in this thriller, and is featured with Lois Moran, who occupies the leading feminine role.
SATURDAY AND MONDAY. A double programme will be screened on Saturday and Monday, consisting of "Blind Wives" and "The Lone Rider." "Blind Wives," featuring Genivieve Tobin and Conrad Nagel, is the story of how a modern wife misused her liberty and "nagged" her husband to such an extent that he was forced to use physical violence—and the results. Included in the cast are Tasu Pitt, Monroe Olsward and "Slim" Summerfield.
"The Lone Rider" is a colourful story of the days of '49, with Buck Jones in the leading role. Playing opposite him is Vera Reynolds.
