UNPAID RATES

REMISSION OF PENALTY.

EXTENDED LEGISLATION.

The Government has decided to extend for a further period of twelve months the operations of section 42 of the Finance Act (No. 2) of last year, authorising local bodies to remit the additional charge of 10 per cent, on unpaid rates. This' information was contained in a reply by the Prime Minister (the Right Hon. G. W. Forbes) to an urgent question asked in the House of representatives by the member for Hutt (Mr. W. Nash). The legislation passed last year authorised remissions on rates made and levied for the financial year ended 31st March, 1931.
