TACTLESS MISSIONARY
UNTIMELY ARRIVAL AT CANNIBAL FEAST.
Cannibalism is still being practised in the Nambus tribe, of Malekula, in the New Hebrides, according to Pastor Stewart, vice-president of the Australasian Union of Seventh Day Adventists, who has returned to Sydney. . . He related that when once he visited the paramount chief of the Nambus, the chief appeared most embarrassed, and said that he did not want any missionaries about that day. The reason was that a body had been brought in and the oven was then in process of heating. Mr. Stewart was also informed that tribesmen were out searching for more bodies, and that visitors stood a chance of being waylaid. “The bodies are wrapped in green leaves, placed on hot stones, and the oven sealed with earth,” said Mr. Stewart. “Hundreds of natives have been eaten anad also a few Europeans. __________
