MAORI HEIRLOOM
DISPUTE OVER A MERE. The Maori Council sat at Otorohanga this week, and after hearingfurther evidence in the greenstone case, in which Urumaranga Turi was plaintiff and Whakatoi the defendant, gave its decisioft regarding this noted heirloom. The judgment gives plaintiff and defendant the right of equal possession as they are both related to the earlier owner. Urumaranga will be given possession of the mere forthwith. In the event of her death it passes to Whakatoi, who can then leave it to his next-of-kin.
