PERSONAL.
Mr and M-s P. H. Passau will spend the Christmas holidays at their son's farm at Matiere. Mr A. W. Oheal leaves for Auckland to-morrow. -; Mr and Mrs J. J. McLeod and family will spend the holidays at Brown's Bay, Auckland. Mr and Mrs J. C. Rolleston will spend the holidays at Takapau, Hawke's Bay. In recognition of his long period of service as a member for Timaru, a presentation was made to Mr. F. J. Rolleston in the Council Chambers yesterday. Mr. Les Hitchcock, who is now a member of the staff of the Bank of New Zealand at Wellington, _ left today for Kawhin, where he will spend the holidays with his parents.
A visitor to Te Kuiti yesterday was Mr. C. J. Ryan, one of the oldest pioneer settlers of the King Country. Mr. Ryan, vho is a member of the Taranaki Land Board, first came to the King Country 28 years ago, when the first Crown Lands in this district were thrown open for settlement, and during his residence in various parts of the district has hadmany interestexperiences of pioneering when there were few white people here. Mr. Ryan, who spent the day visiting old friends and associations, has great faith in the future of the King Country.
