EXPERIMENT BY DEPARTMENT

To test the possibilities of imparting instruction to school children by wireless the Education Department, by arrangement with the Radio Broadcasting Company, broadcasted, a special programme from the Wellington station, 2YA, between 2 pan. and 3 pan. on Tuesday to selected schools ranging from Wliangarei to Invercargill. The selected schools were at Auc/V land, New Plymouth, Wliangarei, To Kuiti, Taurang.n, Rotorua, Stratford, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Taihape, Gisborne, Napier, Dannevirke, Masterton, and several centres in the South Island. In these schools receiving sets were installed, and the Te Kuiti* High School report a good reception, thja various speakers being heard quite distinctly. If the experiment proves successful the Department will consider the. development of the scheme. Chief among its advantages would be the assistance that could be rendered to schools in isolated areas
