SATURDAY’S MATCHES. The matches in the Maniapoto Championship competition which were postponed from ithe previous week, were set down for Saturday last. Following were the results : Seniors.
Hangatiki 8, Nehenehe 0. Huia defaulted to Te Kuiti. Pio Pio v. Mangapeehi, postponed to end of first round. Juniors. Kio Kio 3, v. Otewa. 0. Te Kuiti B defaulted toi Te Kuiti A. Otewa B defaulted to Hangatiki. Aria v. Friendly, and Nehenehe v. Pio Pio were postponed to the end of the first round.
NEHENEHE v. HANGATIKI
Nehenehe defeated Hangatiki on the Domain on Saturday after a closely lougliit contest in which Nehe proved the better team to the tune of 8 to 6. Three minutes from the start, owing to a mistake made by a Hangatiki player just outsidte lialf-wjay, Tuko Nehe’s wing three-quarter, snapped up the ball, dashed straight down the lino and; scored a sensational try. Anderson’s kick failed. Give and take play foil/wed/: Hangatiki pressed Nehe, and they cleared their lines. In loose play several free kicks were given against Nehenehe. Shortly alter, with Nehe attacking, the Hangatiki fullback slipped in fielding the ball and lost possesion. Where Tinui, a young player of promise, followed up fast and ran right through with the ball. Puku
Wi kicked the goal. Nehenehe 8; Hangatiki 0. After the spell during loose play about mid-field a free kick was given Hangatiki, and Barrett kicked a good goal. A selc-ond' penalty soon after saw Baggs put over a neat kick, making the score Hangatiki G; Nehenehe 8.
Alter a succession of line-outs in neutral ground Nelie attempted to open up the game, but the ball was dropped on the wing. This happened again when T. Anderson transferred tn Walker and the leather again slipped through the outside back’s fingers. Barrett cleared and took play to halfway, where he lost the ball. Play swayed back and forth. Hangatiki penetrated Nehe’s defence and secured a free kick. Baggs kicked a good ball, but just outside the post. Tho final stages of illie match were played in a. downpour of rain, which slowed it up 'considerably, and there was no further score. Mr Davidson refereed.
