THE REST ROOM.
COMMITTEE’S QUOTA RAISED.
At am eeting on Saturday -of the committee set up to raise funds for a Resit Room in Te lvuiti it was anlu'unced that the committee had fulfilled its obligations in raising its quota towards this objective. With the £SO by an anonymous donor, given under certain conditions, £7O over the promised amount has been paid into the account. It has been found, however, that owing to the cost of building and the necessity of providing a building that would do justice to the town, the original estimate of £450 is not sufficient. The committee fully realise that the Borough Council’s offer in the matter of subsidy is a generous one, but in order to ereict a building that would do credit to the town, another £IOO has to be found., The Council is in full sympathy with the scheme, but cannot see its tvay, in justice to the ratepayers, to increase the subsidy. A number of the councillors have signified their intention otf forming themselves in to a committee to help to raise the extra amount.
The project is a. good one, and as there is a general movement to try and popularise the town, there should noL be any difficulty in raising the additional amount required. Any further sums forwarded to this office, whether from town or country, will be duly acknowledged through these columns.
