THE REGENT FLOODS.

DAMAGE ON RIVER BANK. The work of the Beautifying Society on the river bank suffered severely by the inundation, many of the trees I>|null'll sustaining a severe buffeting |,y the flood waiters. The bridge over the creek on the east side was washed away, also a portion ol the pnnga fence. . . , . Very little damage is reported in other portions of the town. In King Street there arc still deposits of silt, and many residents have their sections covered with deposits of slime and mud. . _ . . ... . The To Kunn Road has suffered most, the prolonged immersion having washed most of the blinding from the metal,' which is rapidly loosening and breaking up. It was badly pot-holed before the flood, and now looks as though considerable repairs will have to be effected if it is not to go- altogether to pieces. . Mr M. Ren noil, County Engineer, is at present making a tour of the county, accompanied by Mr Johnson, of the Public Works Department. Until the investigations are completed, it is impossible to estimate the damage done to roads and bridges. It is estimated, however, that £4OOO will bo a low' estimate. The most serious damage appears to be about Moeatoa and Kireteliere, where the bridges suffered severely, while about Aria there are about 40 chains of slips on the Kie Kie Road. On the Awakino Road about lour or five miles from’ Te Kuiti, the road has dropped fully two feet, while at the six-mile there is a heavy slip. The matter of repairs will bo considered at the annual meeting of the County Council to be held to-morrow. POSITION AT PIO PIO.

Most of the , water immediately around Pio Pioy-bas disappeared, and no loss of stock is reported. The Wairere Rofad, however, is still impassable in places, and communication with Aria is maintained by walking part of the way, about half a mile along the high country. On the Mangaotaki Road several minor slips occurred, but settlers wore very busy yesterday clearing these, andl the road is clear for traffic.
