DEATH OF DRUG ADDICT.
MAN ARRESTED.
FOR SUPPLYING DECEASED
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, this day.
Thomas Bilcliffe, about 60 years of age, died at the Waitemata Hotel last night following the use of a hypodermic syringe charged with heroin. Bilcliffe received a visit from a friend named George Barker, aged 21, both being known as drug addicts and having served a term on Rotoroa Island. At Bilcliffe's request, Barker gave the former two injections. Bilcliffe was soon fast asleep, and Barker then left the hotel. On returning he found Bilcliffe still asleep. He undressed him and put him into bed. At dinner time he called Bilcliffe, but failed to arouse him. Becoming alarmed, he called the police. A doctor was sent for, who pronounced the man dead.
Barker was taken to the police station, where it was found that he had in his possession bottles containing various drugs and also several syringes.
Deceased was a cook and was recently employed at the Great Barrier.
