Mrs A. B. Jordan is visiting Auckland, and. Miss Ivy Jordan is spending a holiday at Tauranga. Mr E. M. Mackersey, who has been spending the holidays in Auckland, returned by the express last night. Mr D. Kennedy returned from Auckland last, night. Mr J. H. Harrison, after spending several weeks in the Hawke's Bay district, is attending the Nurserymen's Annual Conference in Wellington. Messrs S. A. Holah and J. Kiernau motored from Auckland on Sunday last. Mr and Mrs D. Vernon have returned from a holiday in the country. Mr R. H. Brown has returned from his holiday at Christchurch. Mr W. A. McAra arrived back yesterday from spending 'the holidays at Lee, North Auckland. The death occurred at Lower Mutt on Friday of Mrs Hursthouse, widow of the late Mr Wilson Hursthouse. Mrs Hursthouse was the second daughter of the late Dr E. L. Humphries, who came to New Zealand from London in 1850- and settled in New Plymouth. The death is announced from .New Ptlymouth of the Hon. Oliver Samuel, K4J. ; M.L.C. The Hon. Oliver Samuel was born aft St. Helier's, Jersey, and was a son qf Dr Samuel, D.D. Ho arrived in New Zealand in 1855, and was educated at Nelson College. Ho was in the Grown Lands Department for sonic years and was in the Deeds Registry Office at Auckland in 1869. He was on the goldfields at Thames and Coromandel and was very successful in his ventures there. In 1873 he was articled to Mr Sefton Moorhouse, was admitted to the Bar in 1878, and practised in New Plymouth. Mr Samuel was M.H.R, for New, Plymouth 1884-90, being defeated by the Hon. T. Kelly, after which he retired. He was appointed M.L.O. in 1907.
