HYDRO-ELECTRICITY.
NEED FOR DEVELOPMENT. That it is better for New Zealand to develop her hydro-electric potentialities, even ab high initial cost, than tlo keep imparting American benzine for oil engines, is strongly advocated by Mr W. Claud Motion, chairman of the Franklin County Council and chairman of uirectors of the New Zealand Cooperative Dairy Co., Ltd. "I would urge farmers," said Mr Motion, "to make every possible use of electric power, because the more that is used dhe cheaper it will become, and the less money will be los tito America. From what I saw in the States, every possible use if made of hydro power. We have the power and can develop it, M-mey spent for power remains in tihis country, but money sent to tho States is lost to the Dominion, in face of the absence of reciprocal trade. It will pay farmers t*o patronise their Power Boards,-oven if their charges at the outset are a little higher than the benzine engine, because of the uHimate national and individual good.
