THE TOURIST SEASON.

HOTELS VERY BUSY. WAITOMO HOSTEL FULL. Encouraged by the fine weather of the past week and the improved stale of the roads, the tourist traffic is in full swing, and a large number of motorists arrive and depart daily. The local hotels were crowded last night, and the hostel at Waitomo is, and has been, full lor some time. Present bookings ensure that it will be continually full for a long time to come.

The local tourist bureau has large number of enquiries daily as to the state of the roads, car services and accommodation. Motorists come from all parts of New Zealand, the favourite trip being the “round” route via Napier, Gisborne, Taupo, Rotorua. Te Kuiti and New Plymouth, A large number visit the Waitomo Caves from Te Kuiti who do not stay at the hostel.

Several enquiries have been made about the caves recently discovered in the Mangawhitikau Valley. A party of tourists from New Plymouth visited the glow-worm cave on Sunday, and returned highly delighted with, the beauties of the cavern and gorge.
