Resignations from the Wafd are increasing, owing to the alleged open Republicanism of the majority, who are Zaghlulists. Many students have resumed their studies in consequence of the Government’s firm attitude. The schoolmasters, however, regret the absence of corporal punishment in the Government schools, and emphasise the fact that the birch and cane are the only really effective methods of keeping order and discipline.
