CONDITION OF ROADS.

WET BUT PASSABLE. 1 HEAVY CAR TRAFFIC. In spite of the wet weather and heavy traffic of the past week most of the main roads through and around this district remain passable, and motorists are continually passingthrough Te Kuiti. Four cars came through from New Plymouth this morning. Their occupants reported that though the unmetalled portion of the road is still very soft it was passable at a pinch, as their own passage over it demonstrated. Of the Rangiriris much the same may be said, and heavy cars naturally have the worst time. In this connection it is interesting to note the performance of a two-seater 10 h.p, English light car, which did the journey from Auckland to Wellington ing during Christmas. One of its two passengers said that they had passed many heavy cars stuck in the mud at Tongaporutu on Friday, but their own car had come through without mishap. They returned from Auckland on Sunday without trouble, and set off on the return journey to Wellington. One of the worst roads at present is the route to the Kawhia Beach, where several cars were stuck yesterday. The Marakopa Road to Lemon Point is in excellent condition, and the run to the Waitomo Caves is also good.
