OTOROHANGA NOTES.
(Own Correspondent.) There seems to ho quite an epidemic of motor accidents here lately. No fewer than fdur accidents have occurred locally during the past three weeks, and in each case the car concerned has been a. brand new one. Air H. Afaswell, with a newly purchased Ford car, ran over the side of the road between Otoroluinga and Kio Kio recently, damaging his car considerably, while a similar experience befell Mr S. Belcher n a new car last week. While returning from llora flora to oto roll anga last week Air J. A. Ormsby ran off the road into a steep gully with a. new ear, which is now almost a total wreck. The latest accident took place oil Sunday last when a new Ford car owned and driven by Air Ei. Gorton ran into a bank at the side of the road near the Kio Kio school. It appears that Air Gorton was following behind another car when the ladfcer, on reaching a narrow culvert in a dip on die road suddenly pulled up, and Air Gorton was compelled, in order to avoid a collision, to run his car into a bank at tho side of the road. The passengers in the car were Air and Airs H. W. Atkinson. Airs Atkinson was Thrown through the wind screen with the violence of The impact and sustained painful cats to: her face and was llso severely bruised, and is at the present time suffering from shock. Mr Atkinson was also cut and bruised, while Air Gorton escaped with minor injufies. Fortunately the injuries sustained, though of a painful nature, are not very serious and the parties concerned can congratulate themselves in escaping so lightly. The car is 'considerably damaged. The occupants were attended no by Dr Nicholson and brought to Otoroluinga by taxi.
The Presbyterian concert party which is making a to,ir of the district! in aid of the Church funds, made its opening appearance at Otewa on Saturday night. In spite of the unfavourable weather experienced a fair attendance was present and the various items were well received.
Th annual primary school examinations were held on Friday last by Inspector Beaglehole, when pupils from the Otoroluinga School and the schools of the surrounding districts sat for tho pn ficieney certificates. The results were very gratifying, since nearly all the candidates obtained their proficiency certificate, while the remainder were awarded competency.
