AMUSEMENTS.
EMPRESS THEATRE. There will be a double star programme at the Empress Theatre tonight. Alice Joyce will play the leading role in "Cousin Kate," the story of a successful novelist who, in spite of fame and plenty of friends, was lonely. How she finds happiness is told in this interesting film. Then Marion Davies will appear in "Buried Treasure," described as a drama with a thousand thrills. To-morrow night and Thursday night "Bits of Life" will be screened. In this picture there are four stories, the first a satire, second a comedy drama, then a tense drama, and the fourth, a big surprise. The cast includes Wesley Barry, the boy actor, who has so rapidly made a name for himself. PEOPLE'S PICTURE PALACE. To-night's attraction at the People's Picture Palace is the picturised version of Edna Ferber's novel "Fanny Herself." A Topical Gazette will also be screened, as well as a light comedy called "Trials of a Dentist." To-morrow night Rupert Hughes' great story, "The Cup of Fury," is the star picture. This picture is exhibited under the direction of J. C. Williamson, and the management advise that no extra charge will be made. Rupert Hughes is one of the most popular of present day American novelists and his book "The Cup of Fury," is an interesting and fascinating study of American social customs. The picture has been showing to record houses in the centres, and reservations can be made by telephoning No. 290.
