GERMANS HEAVILY REPULSED.

BY FRENCH ON CBEMIN DES DAMES. London, Thursday A French communique Btates:—"A very great struggle was fought on the Chemin des Dames. Attacks were made by large enemy forces, preceded by violent bombardmentß, but were everywhere repulßcd. In the district of Cerny, and near Hurtebise, the Germany were twice sanguinarily defeated. Powerful efforts wex-e made further east against the plateau but the assaulting waves were mown down by our barrage. The enemy gained a momentary footing in the north-eastern «alient of the plateau, but a bayonet charge ousted them in disorder. The number of German dead testifies to their absolutely purposeless sacrifices. Our positions were entirely maintained, and we in return carried the German firstline trenches on a front of 1200 yds north-eats of Chevreux, north-west of Rheims.
