BRITISH AND FRENCH FRONTS.
LATEST COMMUNIQUES. Received 11.35 a.m. London, Friday. Sir Douglas Haig reports:—"The Germans attacked last evening eastward of Arleux, southward of Souchax river, which we repulsed by our artillery and machine gun fire. We drove off a later attempt wherein the Germans were assisted by flammenwerfer, southward of Souchez river. We successfully made a night raid eastward of Ypres." The French communique states: — "We carried the centre of resistance in the region of Chevreuyx, German grenade counter-attacks broke down under our fire. We repulsed stronger attacks on a salient northeast of the California plateau, after lively fighting wherein the enemy suffered serious losses. A lively artillery duel is proceeding on the Cerny-Hurtebise front."
