PIO PIO.

jOwn Correspndent,

The operations of the Pio Pio dairy factory this season are being attended with great success. The increase in Hupply has been phenomenal the amount of cream received last month exceeding that of the best month last year. There has been a uniform excellence in°tfae butter turned out from the factory, all of which has been graded very highly, and in the contest for the Weddel Shield the factory should score heavily. The prospects all round are extremely bright, and the fact that the output this year is greatly in excess of that o? last year while many of the settlers are milking fewer coW3 indicates that improved methods of dairying are being employed. Shearing operations have been held up in consequence of the rain, and the opinion is unanimous that this is the worst season ever experienced. A number of those who attempted to shear have had a trying time and in several instances considerable losses in shorn sheep are reported. From all appearances the majority of the woo! from the district will be held over till the end of the season as the condition of the roads is such that the carting of the wool must be a slow process. Waggons are continually being stuck uv> on the soft roads. The breaking up calebartions in connection with the uchool were very successful. On Thursday evening a concert was held in the hall, and the attendance filled the building. An excellent programme was submitted and a handsome profit on the function resulted. On the following day the school sports were held and notwithstanding the bad weather an enjoyable day was spent. Considerable progress is taking place in the district. A new butcher shop has been erected by Mr G. Andrews, and a new office has been built by the Dairy Company for the secretary, Mr G. Brown. Tenders have also been let for the doctor's residence and a start is to be made on the building at an early date.
