COUNTY COUNCIL SOCIAL.

MR W. J. HOFFMAN'S RETIREMENT. At the conclusion of the usual monthly meeting of the Waitomo County Council on Monday evening, the councillors and a number of friends from Otorobanga and Te Kuiti assembled in the Council ChambeF, the occasion being the making of a presentation to Mr W. J. Hoffman, on his retirement from the County Council. Mr A. Schoies, County chairman, presided. Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, the guest of the evening failed to appear, and the chairman in apologising for Mr Hoffman's absence said nobody could ac count for the fact, but he was sure if it had been humanly possible Mr Hoffman have got there. They would celebrate the occasion as had been intended, and the presentation could be made to Mr Hoffman in person on the date of the annual meeting of the Council. Other toasts honoured during the evening were — "The Guests."
