MAIN ROAD CONNECTION.

DEPUTATION TO COUNCIL. The desirability of opening up the road connection between Te Kumi and Hangatiki has frequently been referred tc. The. road has been surveyed for years and formation work for a distance of these ji four miles is necessary to open up the connection and give access to a consierable amount of well subdivided country along the valley. On Monday evening a deputation consisting of Messrs J. Tsmmadge and J. Lee waited on the County Council and requested the assistance of tne Council in opening up the road for traffic. It was pointed out that the road was realiy a section of the Main Trunk read and should have been constructed years ao. It simply had to be made sooner or later, and besides opening up a fins stretch of dairying country would bs the best and easiest drive to the Waitomo Caves from Te Kuiti. The sections in the valley were practically all in occupation, and it wa3 desired to get access in order to bring in material wherewith to carry out improvements. Mr Lee stat3d his sons were desirous of getting in fifty acres of turnips, and had to gat manure in within the next few weeks, or the opportunity would be lost. The chairman said the Council was entirely in sympathy with the deputaton and would endeavour to help in the matter. A grant had been applied for from the Government, but until the Public Works Estimates were published there was no means of knowing whether any provision had been made for the work. In the meantime he recognised the urgency of getting access and if it was possible for the Council to assist something would be done. The matter was eventually left in the hands of the engineer and Cr Johnston to confer with the deputation on the ground.
