EMPRESS THEATRE. "The Model for St. John." —The commission to paint a picture of St. John for one of the groat cathedrals is awarded to Monsieur Warner. He recognises in his eon the attributes for the painting, and soon the picture is completed. Hjb son spends all his money in riotous living. Many years later the artist seeks for a model among the outcasts and poor, as he has been asked to paint the worst type of Satanic depravity. The artist leaves his model for a few minutes, he shuttles towardß the canvaa, looks at the portrayal of his features, and is struck with terror. The artist returns and tries to quiet his model. At this moment his eyes lighten upon the painting of St. John, for which he sat years ago. Beating his breast in terror, he cries: "I posed for that picture of St. John the Divine." In his delirium the wretched sot fallß dead.
