WORKERS' HOMES.
COMMISSIONERS AT TE KUITI. For a considerable time past efforts have been made to induce the Government to purchase suitable areas of land at Te Kuiti for the purpose of establishing workers' homes. The matter was brought before the Prime Minister on his recent visit to the King Country, and Mr Massey undertook to have enquiries made with a view to ascertaining if arrangements could be made to give effect to the desires of the deputation. Some time ago an inspection was made of property near the town, and yesterday Messrs J. Lomas, Secretary for Labour, W. Newton, officer in charge of the Auckland Labour Department Office, and Mr W. Temple, architect to the Department, visited Te Kuiti and inspected various properties offered to , the Government. The Pukenui, Sunnyside, and Heathcote estates, as well as Mr R. M. Somer ville's property, were inspected, but it is not yet definitely known whether the purchase of anv of the blocks mentioned will result.
