A trial notable for the application of the. unwritten law resulted in the acquittal :it the Wiltshire Assizes of John Price, for the mu.iier of his brother, Nathaniel, on January 12th. John admitted he shot his brother. The defence was provided by public subscription. It is stated accused committed the crime, not in the heat of
the moment, but in agony and despair because his brother brutally ill-treated his parents mid terrorised the family; Mr Justice Ridley, summing up, said the rircumstanees were horrible. There was no'question of self defence, Nathaniel was shot like a rat, but ho would be very sorry to see a verdict of murder, lie suggested the accused should be acquitted, or verdict of manslaughter returned.
