Own Correspondent. On Thursday the monthly stock sale of the district was held at Pio Pio. Prices showed a slightly upward ten dency, due probably to the turnip crops maturing, and to the rains. There was a good attendance. Fat prime beef was in fair demand, but cow beef did not bring what it should have done. There was a small yarding of sheep, but the demand was not eager. Good steers brought £7 17s 6d, store £5 10s to £4 -ss, eighteen months animals £3 5s to £2 10s, calves 30s, cow just calved with calf £5 ss, springers £5, fat bulls £4, four and six tooth wethers 17s 3d. fat empty ewes 12s 6d, forward lambs 10s 6ci. A very useful type of farmer's horse four yearo old, broken to saddle, only £ls.
PROPOSED METALLING LOAN. A well attended meeting was held on Friday afternoon in the Aria Hall, convened by Mr R. Keighley for the purpose of considering the advisability of dropping the present metalling scheme in favour of a more comprehensive one, which should form and metal the Kie Kie, Kumara, and Paraheka roads. Mr R. Keighley was voted to the chair, and in explaining the object of the meeting, said that it would cost approximately £12,300 to do the whole work, of which on the £ for £ subsidy the Government would find one-half. Mr Mackenize proposed that the scheme before the council be gone on with to which Mr W. Keighley proposed an amendment in favour of the larger scheme. A small committee was set up which in a little time reported the value of the Droposed ratable area to be about £34,800 and the rate upon this would be in the region of 2Jd. Upon this being reported to the meeting Mr McKenzie withdraw his motion in favour of the amendment, which, upon being put to the meeting, was carried. The chairman explained the necessary stpps to bring about the change, and Mr P. Smyth offered to supply all data necessary. The next meeting was fixed for the May 30th, at 1 p.m. On the same day at 2 p.m. a meeting, convened by Mr McKenzie, Wairere, will also be held in the Aria Hall to consider the best steps to take to further the metalling of the Pio Pio-Aria road. FANCY DRESS BALL. A very enjoyable fancy dress ball was held in the Aria Hall on Friday evening in aid of the hall funds. Dancing was continued until the early hours of the morning. Light refreshments were provided. The music was supplied by Mv Ghas. Zachariah and Mr E. West was an efficient M.C. Among those present were —Misses Copestick, autumn leaves; Sangster, good luck; M.
