TELEPHONE FACILITIES.
The new regulations in connection .with telephone services are being taken advantage of at Te Kuiti by residents within reasonable distance of the exchange. Already four new party iinesare applied for.which mean twenty-four additional subscribers, six being the minimum number for which a line can be erected. The charges are extremely reasonable the rate for putting in thß lines being £3 a year for each subscriber up to three miles and for every additional mile an extra charge of £3 a year is made for a party line. The latter charge is shared by the group of subscribers interested in the party line. The department will also erect lines for subscribers up to a distance of nine miles providing a bond is entered into to subscribe for a certain number of years, ranging from two years to five according to the distance required.
The number of subscribers on the Te Kuiti exchange list is almost sufficient to warrant an extension of the time during which the exchange may be used to 10 p.m. • As soon as the additional subscribers can be connected the extension will be made.
