THE ELECTION AT WAITARA.

There was an extraordinary display of feeling at Waitnra on Thursday night, when Mr Jennings addressed a large, assemblage waiting to hear the election results. Speaking from a motor car the candidate heartily thanked the friends who Inn! worked untiringly on his behalf, hut he had to accept the voice of the public. He hoped Taumarunui doclnr.iie would prosper under its new representative, it certainly had under his care during the pant nine year.*. At the conclusion of the address cheering took place for a considerable time and men and women clambered on the footboard of the motor car shaking the candidate's hand. After the crowd had sung "For lie's a jolly good fellow," the car proceeded slow I v ie the bridge large crowds following. Mr/Jennings again addressed a leuwords saying the demonstration of kindly feeling shown made him think defeat, was victory. The crowd sang "Auld Lang Syne" and cheered heartily. The defeated candidate bus received hundreds of telegrams from all parts of the Dominion. One message from a gentleman who has sons on the land in the King Country and who I employs over a thousand person:'- in I Canterbury. aays Mr Jennings' defeat is a national loss.
