A .SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION

Excellent, preparations li:»'I been made for the occasion, and (he arrangements of tho committee worked Rrnoolhly from tho start. Tim officials and members of Iho committee are to be congratulated upon the success of their efforts. Tho ladies worked admirably und tho secretarial duties were well attended to by Mr C. Castoll. Tho thanks of the committee aro due to tho outside exhibitors who sent along beautiful collections and were greatly responsible for the suecesj of the show. Particularly prominent were exhibits lor exhibition only from Mr 11. Brett. Auckland (carnations), Messrs Hennett ami Green, pot plants and roses, in addition to a very fine collodion of apples Mr Benneiield, Wnnagnui, roses; Mr J. Walker, Auckland, pot plants and cut flowers; Or Douglas, Hamilton, roses; and Mrs Dougals, sweet peas; Messrs Lippiatt Bros., Auckland, a beautiful rose exhibit of live hundred blooms.

The duties 1 1 judge were ably performed by Mr W. E. Lippiatt. The committee are indebted to Messrs Green and Colebrook and E. J. Thompson Mr for the supply of glassware and crockery and to Mr A. S. Greslmm for tables and ciiairs, kindly lent for tho occasion. The ladies' committee which had done splendid work throughout the show, dispensed after noon tea and found business very brisk. The funds of tho association will receive considerable financial benefit from this source. The .secretary (Mr Castell) worked indeaftiga bly throughout the show. In the evening the Mayor (Mr J. Boddie), in formaPy opening Urn show, congratulated the committee upon their efforts in making the show such a success and thought that everyone present was surprised at the beauty and numbtv of tho the ex hibits, he felt sure that next year the show would be a most, popular event. He thought that shows of this kind did a large amount of good, pretty gardens improved the appearance of the town, and the heaThy rivalry that, would exist among exhibitors would tend to make the show most popular. Musical items were rendered during the afternoon and even and were greatly appreciated. Mr E. 11. Hardy kindly supplied gramaphone selections during the afternoon, and Mrs A. C Johnson (violin) Miss I. Graham (piano) and Miss Handysido (vocal) gave some delightful items during the evening. Following are the results in the various classes :-
