BOWLING.
AUCKLAND v. SOUTH AUCKLAND The first match between teams from the above association was played at Hamilton this week. A team consisting of Messrs Julian (.skip), King, Chilcott and Edgar travelled from Te Kuiti to take part in the tournament. The grand totals were—'Auckland 567, South Auckland 424, majority for Auckland 143. : TE KUITI BOWLING CLUB. A special general meeting of Te : Kuiti Bowling Club was held last 'night in Hattaway's sample rooms. The secretary (Mr Dransfield) an- ; nounced that Te Awamutu Club were ' anxious to meet three or four rinks on 1 Te Awamutu grounds on March 17th. The president (Mr Power) said that i the meeting had been called to settle, !if possible, their financial position, ■ before closing down for the season. ilt was suggested that they close the ; green at an early date for top dress- ! ing, and they would like to have the I accounts paid as soon as possible. , Accounts owing amounted to £6O Is j 4d, and subscriptions and donations j outstanding totalled £43 12s 6d, leavi ing a deficency to date of £l6 8s 10d. jln addition to this they had to face I the payment of the caretaker's wages up to the end of August, amounting to about £3O. The pavilion was j originally estimated to cost £6O, but j it actually cost £B3 8s Sd —£23 Ss Sd j over the estimate. He suggested that I the caretaker be permitted, when the j top dressing was done, to undertake : outside work, in order to reduce the i burden on the club. Mr Atkinson moved and Mr Lissa- , man seconded, that the secretary ■ write to those members who have not already contributed to the pavilion | fund, to invite them to subscribe in : similar proportion to what had been i already given.-—Carried. ' The president said they had 62 members, and 33 of them had already ' contributed to the pavilion fund. After some further general discus- ', sion, during which the opinion was j expressed that the caretaker would : have no difficulty in getting sufficient ■ outside work during the winter ! months. ■ Messrs Sharpies and Rouse moved t that the president be empowered to j make arrangements with the care- i taker as to payment of wages in the j winter months, and report to the executive, when, if satisfactory arrangements were made, it should have power to act. —Carried. The secretary said the sooner they closed down the green the better, to get a good green for next year. Messrs Dransfield and Rosenberg moved that the green be closed down after Thursday, 16th March.—Carried. Dr Fullerton gave notice of motion to add to thq by-laws that a committee meeting be held once in three months during the season.
