Otorohanga.

Saturday last was a red letter day for the children in Otorohanga. It was the occasion of the annual picnic and favoured with a line day the hardworked committee were rewarded with an attendance of over five hundred children and adults. There were races for the children according to age, the sack, three-legged and wheelbarrow races were much enjoyed as much by the spectators as by the enthusiastic contestants. The threelegged races showed signs of previous practice. Willing helpers handed round tea, sandwiches and cakes, with fruit, etc ,in between times. Chips oil* the old blocks bestowed their attentions on the men with the lollies in the same old way. The local band turned out in full numbers, and did a great deal towards making the day so enjoyable. The ladies at the provision tent deserve great thanks for their hard work. In the evening a dance was held in Turner's Hall, and the place was packed.
