BOWLS.

On Saturday last three rinks from the Ponsonby West L:id Bowling Club journeyed to Te Kuiti in order to meet the local representatives. Three matches were piayeii, two out of the three being won by toe visitors, the only local rink which managed to win ix-ing thr»t skipped by Mr Power. Mr Lissaman's rink hed a remarkably good gatno ami up to thy last head it seemed doubtful as to who would be victorious. The margin of points which Ponsonby won the match' (on the total) bjing only six, shows that the ramea were stubbornly contested. Dransfieki's team did not seem to get into their stride, and though they were pitted against a very strong team, which included such well-known players as Langsford, Reid and Eagleton they did not do themselves justice, had they played up to usual club form, the result of the match would not have shown such u large margin in the visitors' favour. ' The three rinks used were in excellent condition, and proved that the caretaker, Mi W. Juil had left no stone unturned to make them as good as possible. A large number of ladies were present aim dispensed afternoon tea whicn was most thoroughly appreciated. At the concluison of the matches the president, Mr Power, called upon the Mayor to officially welcome the visitors. Mr Boddie, in doing so, stated that it gave the local club very much pleasure to welcome the Ponsonby West End Club to Te Kuiti, and he trusted they had enjoyed their games that afternoon. He thought inter-club matches were decidedly beneficial in every way and felt sure that many friendships had been made that day that would last for a very long time. In conclusion the speaker said he hoped that many visits would be made by the Ponsonby West End Club to Te Kuiti and that the local club would have the pleasure of returning the visit at an early date. Three hearty cheers were given for the visitors. Mr John Court in a humorous speech thanked the local club for the hospitality extended to them and said they were all most thoroughly enjoying their trip. He sincerely hoped the Te Kuiti Club would return the visit and if they did he knew they would be warmly welcomed. He called for three cheers for the Mayor, three more for Te Ktiiti club, and three for the ladies. In the evening a smoke concret was held, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. The president, Mr Power, occupied the chair.

Many speeches - were made—some serious, soma humorous• -and it was considered that though the visitors had made a name for themselves on the bowling green, their bnllancy at bowls was completely outclassed by their brilliancy at speaking. < Numerous songs were given by local and visiting talent, and J;li* Hardy, who had brought his gramaphone with him, favoured the company with same excellent records. Altogether a most enjoyable time was spent. On Sunday the visitors made an early start for the Waitomo Caves, a large contingent of local ladies and gentlemen accompanying- them. Ruai<uri and Waitomo Caves were seen and all spoke in highest terms of praise of the beauties of tne caves, Waitomo Cave seeming to be the more admired. The party returned to Te Kuiti at 6 p.m., having spent a thoroughly pleasant day. Most of the visitors returned to Auckland by the 10.50 express, and one and all stated that they had thoroughly enjoyed their visit, and would look with pleasurable anticipation to a return to Te Kuiti.
