ONGARUE.

The township of Ongarue, in common with other places in the King Country, is prospering as it becomes an important centre of trade. There is now a daily coach between here and the Ohura Valley, which no doubt will, in the near future, be succeeded by the " Iron horse." The population of the township has been considerably increased during the last few weeks, by the advent of the ballast train.

On Friday last, at the local hall, the train staff gave a dance which was well patronised by the townspeople, who tripped the " light fantastic toe " to the strains of music provided by Mr Wildermoth, of the Railway Department. Mr Osborne made a capable M.C.
