DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL
INCREASED ATTENDANCE REPORTED. Since the beginning of the second term the attendance at the Kaikoura District High School has increased by* two, reported the headmaster (Mr W. H. Jackson) to the monthly meeting of the comnuttee last evening. Air Jackson stated that 15 pupils had left the school during the present term, but 17 pupils had been enrolled. There are 293 pupils attending the primary school and 79 secondary pupils—a total of 372. Mrs S. F. Eaton resigned on June 30 from the position of relieving teacher, and the vacancy had been filled by the appointment of Afiss R. V. Kaye. Advice was received from the Education Board that structural alterations to the primary school building to provide for a staff room will be commenced at an early date. The chairman (Air N. S. Mason) referred to the death of Air V. C. Hughes, who had been a committeeman and keen supporter of the school. Members of the committee stood in silence as a mark of respect to the deceased.
