LAMBING ESTIMATES

DOMINION PERCENTAGE HIGHEST ON RECORD. The estimated lambing percentage of the Dominion for the 1949 season of 96.48 is the highest on record. This is an appreciable increase of 3.37 per cent, on the previous highest figure of 93.11 per cent., which was recorded for 1947. In the Canterbury-Kaikoura district the number of breeding ewes in 1949 was 3,754,192. The estimate-1 percentage of lambs was 99.58 per cent., totalling 3,738,511. There were 129,275 breeding ewes in the Kaikoura district, with an estimated percentage of lambs of 87.5 totalling 113,116.
