WOMEN INTERNATIONALISTS.
“It was in 1908, on March 8, that a group of women in the United States demonstrated in the streets of New York City for women’s suffrage, which was then the symbol of the emancipation of women. This courageous act struck the imagination of women in Europe. When some progressive women met in Scandinavia they decided to mark their admiration by celebrating, on March 8, the international solidarity of women. Henceforth it was to be known as International Women’s Day, and as such it was celebrated for many
years in many countries on the Continent and as far away as Australia.— Sandy Macpherson, in a 8.8. C. broadcast.
