2256-MILE FLIGHT BY NEW ZEALAND PILOT.

KANDY, July 21. “Flight-Lieut. K. J. Newman, D.F.C. (Hokianga) made a record photographic reconnaissance flight by flying a Alosquito on a round trip of 2256 miles from a Bengal base,” says the Associated Press correspondent. FlightLieut. Newman and his navigator, who are known as ‘ 2000-milers ’ for their previous four flights exceeding 2000 miles, crossed the Bay of Bengal at a height of 23,000 feet and circled the search area for one hour. The flyers were 7 hours 20 minutes aloft, during which time they maintained a speed of 300 miles an hour.” Flight-Lieut. Newman was a test pilot at ■Cliristchurch before he went overseas, testing Hudsons and Kittyhawks after they had been assembled. Most Christchurch residents saw Kittyhawks for the first time while he was testing them.
