ENTER MARSHAL BADOGLIO. MARTIAL LAW PROCLAIMED. LONDON, July 26. The resignation of Mussolini as Prime Minister and Chief of the Italian Government has been accepted by King Victor Emmanuel of Italy. Marshal Badoglio has succeeded him. This was announced last night by the Rome radio. The radio went on to broadcast proclamations by King Victor and Marshal Badoglio. King Victor said that Italy would find the road to recovery in the respect of her old institutions. Marshal Badoglio declared that the war would go on. By order of the King he had taken over the military government of the country, with full powers. He had received clear aud definite orders, and they would be scrupulously carried out. Those who attempted to hamper them would be ruthlessly punished. This morning the Rome radio broad cast another proclamation by Marshal Badoglio, virtually placing the country under martial law. It told the people that they must take, up their duties. It was not the moment to indulge in de monstrations, and shese would not be tolerated. The situation demanded soberness, discipline, and patriotism. Con trol of public order, had now come under the military. J Marshal Badoglid added that he had taken over the Command of all the Italian armed foreps. police, and militia.
