AIR RAID ON ESSEN.
DESTRUCTION IN HAMBURG. LONDON, July 26. The air offensive from Britain in the last 36 hours has smashed all records Last night, 24 hours after Hamburg had suffered the heaviest raid of the war Royal Air Force bombers made what is "officially described as a very heavy attack on Essen. The weather over Essen was good and reports show that the raid was concentrated and effective. ', „ , Mosquitoes last night bombed oene. Other Mosquitoes made the sec old consecutive night attack on Hain burg which was also attacked dining the dav by American heavy bombers. Kiel was also attacked in daylight by American heavy bombers. Royal Air Force bombers and one' fighter are missing from Im t night’s operations. From the dayhght raids 19 Allied bombers and seven fighters are missing. a;,First reports of the great Royal Air Force raid on Hamburg on Saturda night, the heaviest ever made, show that the results matched the effort. - • than 2300 tons of ’high explosive and incendiaries were dropped.
