BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY
IMPROVEMENTS TO BE STARTED. At a meeting of the Kaikoura Beautifying and Improvement Society held recently, Mr K. K. Campbell presiding, a letter was received from tin* County Council granting permission to proceed with the Society’s plan for improving the foreshore. The president outlined a scheme for running a tramline from the limestone pit to the falling-in site. Tie had interviewed Mr J. IT. Barratt (Puhi Puhi) regarding tram rails and also the Council respecting the wharf truciks. It was decided to employ two men, with horse and cart, to prepare the track. Mr P. S. II urn in reconiomnded outside information relative to plan of construction along the foreshore, suggesting that terraces should be considered. ft was suggested that the county engineer communicate with Mr Barnett, of Christchurch, relative to this suggestion, and invite him to visit Kaikoura, members to meet on the foreshore on the date of his visit. It was decided to hold a mock court at West End on April 23, the proceeds to be devoted to the queen carnival funds. Progress reports of the oueen carni-
