FIRE

GOOD SAVE BY BRIGADE. At about 3 o’clock on Sunday morning a fire broke out in the store room on the north-western portion of Mr J. Davidson’s store, the alarm having been given by a man from the north camp who was passing. Mr Davidson, the police, and the brigade were notified and a few minutes later the brigade was on the scene and quickly had the fire suppressed. The damage was confined to the wing of the store, where a motor-van and a quantity of goods were stored, the main building and the cottage on Mr Morris’s property being saved. The exact damage is not ascertainable. Had it not been for the efforts of the brigade the store, an old land-mark of Kaikoura, would have gone, together with the adjoining premises. The .brigadesmen are to be complimented on their splendid work.
