TOURNEY AT BLENHEIM. KAIKOURA WINS MEN’S SENIOR. Keen competition, especially in the finals, characterised the Marlborough Hocikcy Association’s tournament held at Horton Park on Wednesday last. One.of the features of the day was the victory of Kaikoura in the men’s section, in which an interesting position arose in respect to the semi-final. Wairau A came through the qualifying rounds at the head of the list with nine points, and Wesley A, United A. and Kaikoura A were all lying next with seven points each. Two semi-finals were therefore necessary and amid a good deal of excitement Wesley A defeated United A by a single goal, only to bo disposed of by Kaikoura A, who showed superior ’combination in the last half of the 15 minutes allowed for the game and rattled on two goals, scored by N. Stewart and F. Taylor. This left Kaikoura. to face Wairau A for the final session, and a hectic struggle saw them take the decision by 2 goals to 1. Their victory was a poular one, as they have been consistent , supporters of the tournament in spite o’f the fact that they had never previously been encouraged by a win. Twenty-five teams participated, compared with 29 last year. Weather conditions were ideal, and the three grounds were in good order, an enjoyable day being spent by spectators and players alike. Nine teams competed in the boys’ seiction, which was won by Rawhiti, who defeated Kaikoura 7—o, after eliminating Arotea in the semi-final 1 — 0. The three teams completed the qualifying round with nine points each. Kaikoura getting the bye. Tn the final goals were scored for Rawhiti by Todd, Fredericks, and Law. Although it apepared at the offset that Kaikoura would have an easy victory against Wairau in the mon’s final the Blenheim team rallied strong!, r after two goals had been recorded against them. Kaikoura were a tough proposition and exhibited superior combination all thonigh the work of the Stewart brothers and S. Low being particularly telling. The teams were:—Kaiikoura: G. Hoadlcy; S. Low, M. Leitch; N. Stewart, F. Taylor, and C. Stewart. Wairau: R. Andreil; H. Taylor, Hart; Haines, L. Hord, and Perret.

Adopting bustling - tactics, Kaikoura scored a minute- a'fter ' the start, N. Stewart taking thg ballthough on his own from the 25. With his brother he added the winning point a minute later, deadly cross-passing heating the opposition. AVairau now began to show bettor form and just on half-time, Perret, who was waiting in position, collected a pass from L. Herd and scored neatly.
