OBITUARY
MR THOMAS B. MEACHEN The death occurred at Christchurch on Sunday after a lengthy illness of Mr Thomas B. Meachen, father of the member for Wairau, Mr E. P. Meachen. The late Mr Meachen, who was Si. years of ago, retired in 1915 after 40 years’ service in the Now Zealand Railways, during which time he served in many parts of the country. In his earlier years he spent a. good deal of time in the Nightcaps and Mataura •districts as an engine-driver. Later he was promoted to the position of locomotive foreman at Wanganui. He served also in Napier, Wellington, ami Palmerston North before he was transferred to Christchurch in 1907. From that time ho resided in that city. Tie is survived by a widow and family of four sons—Messrs Alfred and .Tames, both of Wellington; Charles. Christchurch; and Edwin, Blenheim—and throe daughters—Mrs A. Bust. Christchurch; Airs A. E. Hargreaves, Wellington, ami Miss Mary Meachen, Christchurch. One son, John, was killed in a railway accident at Khandallah, in 1922, and another son, Thomas, Jost his life in a motor accident at Auckland in 1925 when he was travelling on Railway Department busi-
