A dance will be held at Suburban Hall on Saturday night, when the St. Michael’s Tennis Club will entertain visiting tennis players from Blenheim. Mr .1. Stevenson, representing the Marlborough Express, paid his first visit to Kaikoura on Wednesday. Ho is a son of Mr J. Stevenson, formerly Commissioner of Crown Lands and present Mayor of Blenheim. Ihe Hon. P. (’. Webb, Minister of Mines, will likely accompany the Hon. R. Semple on his visit to Kaikoura. An effort is being made to secure visits from the Hqn. P. J’rascr and the Hon. F. Langstone. At a meeting of the'executive* of the Kaikoura branch of the Labour Party, held on Thursday night, it was decided to organise an appropriate function for the reception of the Hon. R. Semple (Minister for Public Wonks), who is expected to visit Kaikoura at an early date. Mr E. P. Mcachen, M.P., received a welcome at the meeting. Mr W. H. Stevens, who carried out the installation of the Kaikoura high pressure water supply, with Mrs Stevens and Mr Tom Stevens, are in Kaikoura, feeling quite at home among friends. Air Stevens is at present, completing a service at Ranunga ami at the beginning of 1937 is to proceed to New South Wales, where contracts for £150,000 for water and £60,000 for drainage have been undertaken. Inspector W. A. Boaz, Main Highways Traffic Inspector, has been in the district for a few days in connection with motor regulations. Parking lines are set out at West End with a view to allowing 30 feet of right of way for cars, in an effort to overcome congestion of traffic in the busy part of the town. Residents will find the inspector a courteous officer, always ready to assist motorists. At the Trotting Club’s meeting on Thursday night Air W. S. Bennett extended a welcome to Air E. P. Afeachen, ALP., and said it was pleasing to see the member for the district taking an interest in the affairs of the (dub. Air Afeachen expressed thanks to Air Bonnett for the welcome extended to him and assured the meeting that anything ho could do to assist the club would be done whole-heartedly. While tin* Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. Al. J. Savage) would like to visit Kaikoura during the recess, this has been found impossible owing to arrangements being made for his trip to England to attend the Coronation and the fact that his hands are full while the Alinister of Finance is awaV. However, the people of Kaikoura can rest assured that the Primo Alinister will visit the district when opportunity presents itself. A verdict that the deceased died from heart failure caused by a blow on the left chest, sustained accidentally, was returned on Thursday by the Coroner (Mr T. E. Afaunsell, S.Af.), at an inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of James Gould Rudd aged 24 years, who was killed while mustering sheep on his father’s property, Benopai station, AVaihopai Valley. The exact cause of the fatality was not disclosed by the evidence owing to the fact that no one in the mustering party of which the deceased was a member, actually witnessed the accident, although it was discovered almost, immediately. Nothing, however could be done for the deceased, . and it was apparent that death must , have occurred instantaneously. The . Coroner returned a verdict in accord- , ance with the medical testimony.
