LOCAL CYCLISTS

TO BE HONOURED An enthusiastic and representative 'meeting took place last night at the Drill Hall, over which Mr V. Wright presided, for the purpose of organising a function in honour of local cyclists who have won honours outside the district. Mr Wright referred to the success achieved by Kaikoura cyclists and stated that it was felt that some function should take place in appreciation of their efforts and it was for the meeting to decide what steps should be taken. He apologised for the absence of Messrs L. Shannon, P. S. Humm, H. Waghorn, D. H. Stove, M. Dunn, A. Gibson, Walter Chapman, H. Harrison, and Maurice Harnett. The Rev. Father Devlin moved that the function take the form of a dance, to be held in the Drill Hall on Thursday next, November 5. This was seconded by Mr H. Stacik and carried. The following committee was appointed:—Rev. Father Devlin, Messrs F. Smith, C. W. Reeves, M. Mackie, H. Stack, J. Stack, A. B. Clark, and D. Clark (secretary). , Mesdames V. Wright and D. H. Stove were appointed to organise a ladies’ committee, with power to act. It was decided to engage Mrs W. 1). Sabiston’s orchestra to supply the music, and to apply to the County Council for an extension of the lighting. service for an extra rour. The admission fees were fixed at 2/- for men and I/- for women. The Rev. Father Devlin and Air V. Wright wore empowered to arrange for suitable trophies. The guests of honour are Messrs D. Aitken, B. G. Miles, C. B. Wareham, C. Stack, and partners. A further meeting will be held at the Drill Hall on Tuesday night to receive reports from ticiket sellers.. Mr F. Smith was appointed master of ceremonies. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the meeting.
