The case rested on whether assistants at provision counters in certain grocers’ shops come under the scope of the Canterbury Butchers’ Award. The question for decision was whether because defendants sold meats of a kind also sold by pork butchers and delicatessen shops they wore bound by the award in question in respect of the provision counters. The judgment decided that they did not come under the award.
