The many friends of Mr F. H. Flower will be pleased to learn that he has returned to his home, and is making steady progress towards recovery. An advertisement appears in our advertising columns dealing with the election of two producers’ representatives on the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board.

The total number of whales captured by the Perano Party for the season was increased to 21 at the week-end, no less than six being added to the list on Sunday. A launch party from Picton were provided with numerous thrills during the chase, which was witnessed at close range. The sea was smooth, but there was a heavy ground swell. There was' a good attendance at the fortnightly social evening, held in the Band Room on Friday last, in aid of funds for the Band. Competitions were won by Mrs A. S. Robinlion and Mrs J. J. Gibson. Music for the dancing was supplied by Miss Mackie and Mr E. AV. Harris. Table tennis was indulged in and much enjoyed. These social evenings are becoming very popular, and the next gathering will be held on Friday, July 13.
Some time ago it was announced that after June 1 the payment of various radio patent fees would be met by a royalty on radio set valves instead of from the annual lincense fees paid by listeners. As arrangements were not completed in time, the date was subsequently postponed until July 1. The Postmaster-General (the Hon. Adam Hamilton) stated that there would be no further extension, and that the new method of payment would operate from July 1.
The social evening held in the Kowhai schoolroom on Friday evening last, was well attended. The programme was bright and well selected, and was as follows: Quartettes, Mrs F. Robertson, Mr W. McD. Baker, and Rev. F. Robertson; trio, Miss Flower, Rev. and Mrs Robertson; vocal solos Mrs C. Miller and Mr E. AV. Flower; vocal duets, Mrs F. Robertson and Miss Flower; cornet duets, Messrs AV. D. Sabiston and H. Brown; chorus, Senior Bible Class members; play reading and community singing led by Mr E. AV. Flower. The accompanists were Miss Flower and Mr E. AV. Flower. Smaller entries caused a slight improvement in values in nio<c sections of stock at Addington on Wednesday. The entry of store sheep was one of the smallest of the season, and the class was of an inferior standard. All descriptions, nevertheless, sold firmly. The freezing season is due to close at the end of this month, but exporters wore active in the market for both lambs and sheep, and there was a firming tendency in the prices paid for fat sheep. The fat cattle penning was only slightly above the requirements of butchers for the week, and the continuous run of weakening prices in recent sales was arrested. Best quality beef sold at up to 1/6 per 1001 b more than recently. Fat pigs also improved in price, notably porkers. The. day was mild and pleasant, and a large gathering of farmers attended the sales.
