RUAWARO MURDER TRIAL.

It is understood that Mr Justice Herdman is to preside at the trial in the Supreme Court of Auckland, of William Alfred Bayly, who is charged with the murder of Samuel and Christobel Lakey, of Ruawaro. The trial is set down to open on May 21. Though no announcement has been made on the subject, a Wellington barrister who was in Auckland recently informed an Evening Post reporter that the name of Mr L. P. Leary was mentioned as second counsel for accused, with Mr E. H. Northcroft an leader. Mr A. C. Hanlon, K.C., of Dunedin, accepted a brief to act as leading counsel for Bayly, but subsequently it was announced that on medical advice he had been reluctantly compelled to relinquish the brief. The case for the Crown will be in charge of Mr V. R. Meredith, and it is stated that Mi V. N. Hubble will be appearing with him.
