TERRIBLE TORNADO

BUILDINGS DESTROYED. MANY HOMELESS. (United Press Assn—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) NEW ORLEANS, March 26. A tornado struck the down town section of the city. Approximately a hundred buildings In an area a mile long and several hundred feet wide, were destroyed or damaged. Twelve injured were sent to the hospital. Scores of others sustained minor injuries. Seven hundred are homeless. The property damage is estimated at between fifty and 250 thousand dollars. Torrential rains accompanied the wind, while semi darkness added to the fright of the people. Many in the Trench quarter of the city standing on porches burning holy candles and uttering prayers, escaped with their lives.
