Addington Stock Markets
In the fat stock sections at the Metropolitan Market at Addington on Wednesday extremely low values were reached. The principal relapse was in the fat cattle section, in which prices receded to a level not within the recollection ot the great majority of buyers and auctioneers, and which some of the old-timer state had a parallel about 4° years ago. Cow beef, especially in a total beef market of over 500 head, was almost unsaleable. Best beet made from 22s 6d to 24s per loo'b; good beet from 19s to 225; heavy beef 16s to 29s ; inferior beet down to r3s ; and rongh down to 7 s -
In the fat pig section there was a decline in values of id a lb and over in all classes, and similar prices have not ruled since the early years of the War. Vealers, except the very best, were practicall 3' unsaleable in a* market also heavily over-supplied, and for a range ol similar values comparison would have to be taken back about 20 years. Fat lambs, totalling 4500, were penned —one of the largest offerings at a corresponding sale tor a very long period oi years. Prices were down sharply com paied with those ruling at the short market of lambs last week, but were up to schedule rates 01 sid per lb ior firsts. In cases a little more was paid by butchers, The fat sheep sold at prices showing a decline of is a head on last week for both classes, and freezing works buyers were operating fairly freely lor ewe mutton.
